Homemade MRE's

Road Trip!

Went up north on my day off again! Gas is about .80 cents to a dollar cheaper up north, and the drive is making it worth it now! Gas hit $4.40 here, and makes me sad, as I know people will soon not be able to drive anymore. I am glad I invested in my bicycle! Worked in the garden a little more, the squash are still alive, but I don't know for how much longer. We will see! The cherry tree is in full bloom, I don't remember all the colorful flowers on it last year, it sure is a sight to behold! The carrots haven't sprouted yet, but I think they soon will, cant wait! All the rest of the plants are doing very well! I still plan on doing the update video, and will do it as soon as possible! Made some homemade MRE's today, made a video for YouTube, and just waiting for it to publish now. I hope people find it informative! I will keep you all updated on the garden and preps! As a new month approaches, a new budget approaches. Which can only mean one thing! New preps, and new toys! Not sure if I will order more food from LDS, as everything is on back order. Ill try to get some more food with the budget, but I may have to find a different vendor for now. Alright, well I will keep everyone posted on whats new! Keep on prepping, and remember not to stress! You are prepping to live, NOT living to prep!

TGIF! and the Survival Garden!

Thank God it's Friday! Well unless you have to work on Saturday like me. If you don't well your week is over! The Sunshine is here, and there is lots to do. We are working more on our garden! A lot is starting to come up! I cant believe it, I have never had a garden, and yet it is doing so well! I have a lot on my plate, but I feel lethargic, NHL playoffs have put me into a stupor, and I don't wanna work! I need to get the shed built to house overflow preps, and tools. We plan to build onto the shed a greenhouse for warmer climate plants (maybe we can actually get some tomatoes to grow here, that would be awesome!). The cherry, Fuji apple, and Gala apple trees are in bloom. I think we will get some cherries, but probably not any apples for another year. I am starting to worry the Peach wont bloom, or produce until next year. The squash are on life support, I think I killed them, but too soon to tell so far, will keep you all posted on it! Lettuce, spinach, garlic, and peas are all doing well! Once I can get a free minute I will do a garden update! Well, until next time....Keep on prepping!

A short day off!

Sunday seemed to pass quite quickly. Days off tend to be more about catch up, and getting things done I didn't during the week. I finished off some grocery shipping and laundry. I finished off my sub contest, congratulations to the winners!! I meant to do another video, but got wrapped up with doing the household chores. I will try to find time this week to get those videos out! As far as prepping; I finally finished vacuum sealing the last bit of my rice; approx 15-20 pounds. I purchased a bucket for the rice, and now I have a full bucket of vacuum sealed rice sitting with my long term storage! Yay! The wife and I attempted to make make a couple homemade MRE's with some food storage we had taking up room. I think they turned out to be successful, but only time will tell. Stayed tuned...more to come!

Rained out again!

Another day of rain. It's hard to work on the garden or the shed project when it feels like there is a monsoon outside. Ive tried to do some inside prepping but feel tired as the rain drains my enthusiasm. I think I will get around to vacuum sealing the last 15 pounds of rice today. I just made a video reminding my subscribers that my contest ends today. I am at a loss for words when it comes to the amount of support and kindness I get from some of my subscribers. My contest started out as a 50 sub, and I am now sitting at approx 230. Awesome! Can't wait for the rain to stop. I have a few videos I am planning, but the rain hinders the plans. Stayed tuned for more videos on the garden, and my monthly preps. Maybe Shawn will come up with a new video for the series...that would be cool! I think today I will remember the old adage; When life gives you lemons, make lemon aide. So, today life has given me rain, and I shall gather as much as I can in barrels for storage. Yep, that's me making lemon aide!!!

Day off with the wife!

Spent the day off today! Finished Round Two of the Grudge Match. All around seemed to be a successful day off. The wife and I were able to put in a new crop of carrots. We went up north to do some shopping, and stopped by a new Guns N Ammo store. A bit small, but the guy was nice. The store turned out to be a Guns, ammo, and security type store. Lots of tazers, and pepper spray. I bought I neat little knife for the wife; it has a straight blade, a saw blade, and a hook for cutting seat belts. Needless to say she has already replaced her EDC knife with the new one. After the Guns N Ammo store, we went to a Wal Mart equivalent store, and finally broke down and purchased a vacuum/food sealer. We got a great deal on a Food Saver brand that came with a starter kit! Yay! Got home and sealed up some pinto beans, and about 15 pounds of rice so far. We will do more when we have some more time. We will have some videos coming up soon to show some of these new buys. I think today was a bit hectic, and yet still quite productive. I wish I could have worked some more on the garden, and the shed project, but the rain still keeps me at bay. Stayed tuned for more updates on the homestead...
